Born in Fontenay-sous-Bois, France in 1981.

Is a highly talented and emerging young artist who creates delicately detailed drawings in black ink and watercolour.
Graduated from the Beaux-Arts academy in Paris, Mérelle received a scholarship in 2005 to attend the Beaux-Arts academy in Xi’An, China. Upon his return to the West, Mérelle was granted a residence at the prestigious Casa Vélazquez in Madrid and in 2010 was the winner of the Canson Prize.

The medium that he uses for his drawings is the only limit for Fabien Mérelle’s creative capacity. The drawings, in color, or in black and white  show familiar images, inspired in everyday life,  human relationships and in the history of art, all of them with a clever irony and sarcasm. The backgrounds focus the look in twisting figures, sinister spaces and impossible relations. Fabien builds his imaginary with the pattern of a dream and impossible combinations that appear to be real. The spectator enters in a moving and never ending scene.

Fabien Mérelle’s work has received international recognition and has been exhibited at The Armory Show in New York, as well as in Paris, Geneva, Hong Kong and in Madrid.
